Islamabad, Jul 13, 2024 (TDI): Demonstrating the bond of friendship and cooperation, the French Ambassador to Pakistan, Nicolas Galey, hosted a reception on Friday evening to celebrate France’s National Day, also known as Bastille Day.
Bastille Day, or “le Quatorze Juillet” in French, marks the storming of the Bastille prison on July 14, 1789.
This pivotal event in the French Revolution symbolizes the struggle against oppression and the dawn of a new republic founded on the principles of liberty, equality, and fraternity.
The day is celebrated across France with various festivities, including the iconic military parade on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.
At the reception, French Ambassador Nicolas Galey and Pakistan’s Minister for Privatization, Investment Board, and Communications, Aleem Khan, reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the friendship between France and Pakistan.
Ambassador Galey underscored the historical and cultural ties between the two nations and appreciated Pakistan’s active participation in the celebrations.
He stressed that cultural exchanges are vital for enhancing mutual understanding and cooperation.
Ambassador Galey also highlighted France’s support for Pakistan’s development initiatives, particularly in the areas of sustainable energy, infrastructure development, and vocational training.
In his address, Privatization Minister Aleem Khan emphasized the significance of robust economic and trade relations between Pakistan and France.

He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to exploring new avenues for collaboration, especially in trade, education, and technology.
“The friendship between Pakistan and France is not only based on cultural ties but also on economic cooperation. We are dedicated to expanding our trade relations and exploring new opportunities for collaboration,” said Aleem Khan.
Both officials acknowledged the contributions of the Pakistani community in France and the French community in Pakistan, recognizing their role in bridging cultural and social gaps.
They pledged to further enhance people-to-people contacts and promote cultural and academic exchanges, such as student exchange programs, joint cultural festivals, and collaborative research projects.
Expressing optimism about the future of Pakistan-France relations, both Ambassador Galey and Minister Aleem Khan emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue and cooperation.
The event saw the attendance of numerous diplomats, politicians, and journalists, underscoring the significance of the occasion and the strong ties between the two nations.
