François Bayrou is the fourth French prime minister in less than a year.
His name was finalized following a two-hour-long meeting between Macron and centrist politician François Bayrou – a veteran politician and a long-time ally of President Macron.

His party failed to secure a majority, and instead of appointing the prime minister from the opposition alliance that held the majority, Macron chose Michel Barnier as the country’s new prime minister.
It should be noted that Bayrou is an ally of Macron, a mayor, and the leader of the centrist MoDem party.
