Foreign Secretary Amina Baloch to Visit Bangladesh After 13 Years’ Hiatus

Islamabad (TDI): Preparations for Foreign Secretary Amina Baloch’s visit to Bangladesh are in the final stages, as The Ministry of Foreign Affairs finalizes the modalities with the Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry.

She is set to visit Dhaka on April 17 to attend the high-level Pak-Bangladesh consultation meeting, which will be held after a gap of thirteen years since 2012.

The meeting is aimed at reviving Pak-Bangladesh Joint Ministerial Commission.

The last meeting of the Commission was held in 2005.

The meeting will also discuss matters related to the upcoming Pak-Bangladesh Joint Economic Commission meeting.

Moreover, the discussions are also expected on other issues including free trade deals, mutual investment agreements and cooperation in the textile sector.

Both sides will also discuss bringing bilateral ties between the two nations to an institutional level.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is also set to pay an important visit to Dhaka from April 22 to 24.

After the popular revolution in Bangladesh, Pak-Bangladesh ties have improved rapidly as Islamabad has abolished visa fees for Bangladeshis.

Pakistan-Bangladesh trade ties were restored when a Pakistani cargo ship arrived in Chittagong in November 2024.

In February this year, direct bilateral trade also resumed as Bangladesh imported 26,000 tons of rice from Pakistan.
