Amman, 14 June 2023 (TDI): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Ayman Safadi had a phone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba, on June 13.

The two ministers deliberated on the Ukrainian crisis and its possible impacts and outcomes. During their discussions, they explored different means to strengthen their bilateral relations.

Ukraine-Jordan Bilateral cooperation

The foreign ministers reinforced their strong desire to foster greater cooperation and collaboration between Ukraine and Jordan.

They stressed coordination in various fields with a special emphasis on food security during their phone talks. According to the World Food Programme (WFP), about 11 million people are food insecure in Ukraine due to the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

The Foreign Ministers expressed their firm commitment to further their cooperation in the economic field, with a special focus on economic security.

Jordan’s Standing on the Resolution of the Ukraine Crisis

Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi reaffirmed Jordan’s principle standing on the importance of resolving the crisis by peaceful means and negotiations.

In this regard, he stressed settling the Ukraine crisis under the United Nations Charter and International law. Moreover, the foreign minister also expressed Jordan’s respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Arab Contact Group Efforts

The two ministers also discussed the role of the Arab Contact group in addressing and resolving the Russian-Ukraine crisis. The Arab Contact group was formed by the League of Arab States to contribute to the efforts to mitigate the tensions between Russia and Ukraine. In April 2022, the contact group separately met with the Ukrainian FM in Warsaw and the Russian FM in Moscow.

Minister Dmytro Kuleba highlighted the 10 points Peace Formula presented by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the G-20 summit 2022. He extended an invitation to Jordan to join Ukraine in its efforts to the implementation of the peace formula.

In addition, the Ukrainian foreign minister praised Jordan’s standing on the Ukraine crisis and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
