Foreign Ministers of Pakistan and Niger meet in Banjul

Banjul, 4 May 2024(TDI): The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar met with the Foreign Minister of Niger Bakary Yaou Sangare, in The Gambia’s Capital, Banjul, on the sidelines of the 15th OIC Islamic Summit.

During the meeting, both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to fostering closer ties and exploring new avenues of collaboration across various sectors.

They underscored the importance of deepening economic relations and identified critical areas for potential cooperation.

Minister Dar and Minister Sangare exchanged views on regional and global developments, highlighting their nations’ shared interests and challenges.

Both ministers expressed optimism about the future trajectory of bilateral relations and agreed to continue working closely to realize shared objectives.

The two sides also discussed coordination within the OIC framework and agreed to continue working closely to advance the collective interest within the OIC and beyond.

Kashmir conflict

During the meeting, both Foreign Ministers engaged in a comprehensive dialogue regarding the ongoing situation in Kashmir and its implications for regional peace and stability.

They exchanged views on the humanitarian aspects of the Kashmir conflict and reaffirmed the importance of peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.

Highlighting the significance of multilateral cooperation, the Ministers emphasized the need for international attention and efforts to address the longstanding issue of Kashmir by relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and international law.

Deputy Prime Minister Dar appreciated Niger’s support to Pakistan at various regional and international platforms and its principled stance on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

Separately, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also held a meeting with the Lord Mayor of the City of Banjul Rohey Malick Lowe, and discussed the role of women and youth in development and social progress.
