Foreign Ministers of China and Vietnam met in Cambodia

Phnom Penh, 6 August 2022 (TDI): The Foreign Ministers of China and Vietnam, Wang Yi and Bui Thanh Son met in Cambodia on Thursday during the foreign ministers’ meetings on East Asia cooperation.

Both states reaffirm Vietnam’s firm commitment to a one-China policy. Wang emphasized that US actions not only undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity but also threaten regional interests and all fundamental principles regulating international relations.

 China and Vietnam vow to strengthen bilateral relations

In the Cambodia capital of Phnom Penh, China and Taiwan agreed that the agreement made at the 14th Meeting of the China-Vietnam Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation will be put into practice. The subsequent phase of cooperation in crucial sectors would be accelerated.

Son expressed best wishes for the success of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. Vietnam looks forward to continuing high-level interactions between the two states.

Son said that Vietnam build its relationship with China as the top priority of its foreign relations and as a strategic choice. Vietnamese side will host several celebratory activities at that time to show solidarity between socialist nations.

Vietnam and China preserving their long-standing friendship, strengthening their shared political confidence, and expanding their practical cooperation.

Son stated that the Vietnamese side had released a joint statement with other ASEAN nations. The statement reaffirmed their continued loyalty to the one-China policy and promised to cooperate to uphold regional peace and stability.

Yi also said that both states set a strategic vision for their future cooperation. To jointly improve the pathways to modernization for both states, the two sides will intensify their exchanges and mutual learning efforts.

Yi appreciated Vietnam’s support for the one-China principle and also said that US unfavorable actions threaten regional stability.

Yi emphasized that more than 100 nations have openly announced their support for the one-China principle. UN Secretary-General has indicated firmly that the UN would uphold UN General Assembly Resolution 2758.

Wang said that China is ready to cooperate with Vietnam to fully realize their comprehensive strategic cooperative relationship. Both states will jointly protect the unity of socialist countries and together uphold world justice and fairness.
