Geneva, 12 December 2023 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Jalil Abbas Jilani, on Monday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment towards upholding the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) while participating virtually at the celebration of 75th anniversary of Human Rights.
During the Human Rights 75 high level event the Foreign Minister said that the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human rights is a solemn occasion to renew our pledge to humanity.
The Foreign Minister in his statement applauded the contributions of Begum Shaista Ikramullah, in drafting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, especially the rights of women.
The minister remarked that the principles of human dignity equality and freedom as enshrined in the declaration lie at the very core of the constitution of Pakistan
Today Pakistan renews its commitment to work with the international community for the realization of these principles of human rights for everyone everywhere.
He added that Pakistan has been at the forefront of the development of international human rights law norms and agenda.
Pakistan has always endeavored to forge consensus and build bridges across diverse perspectives we remain a strong advocate for peaceful resolution of disputes, dialogues, and mutual respect in promising universal respect of human rights.
He said that in the last 75 years we have witnessed significant progress across the global human rights landscape, yet the challenges remain.
The world must particularly reflect on the continued prevalence of what the declaration has termed barbarous acts that outrage the conscience of mankind.
From occupied Jammu and Kashmir to Palestine generations of people continue to brave such barbarities with disturbing impunity for the violators.
Global commitment to human rights and inability to stop such crimes cannot go together. We echo concerns about the increasing double standards in implementing of the principles of Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
He urged the international community to deliver the oppress what the declaration promised them 75 years ago.
In his statement, the Foreign Minister reaffirmed pledges by Pakistan which included to advance the implementation of its international human rights obligations
To reinforce social safety net for the poor and marginalized. To build climate resilience and rehabiliate the people affected by the 2022 devastating floods.
