Riyadh, 8 September 2022 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, met with the Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, in Riyadh on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the officials discussed issues of the development of bilateral cooperation between the states.  Both the ministers also exchanged views on cooperation within the framework of international organizations.

The meeting between the Foreign ministers of Tajikistan and Saudi Arabia took place following the Ministerial meeting of the Arab countries of the Gulf and Central Asia.

The Foreign Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, took part in the meeting and delivered a speech.

It was the first-ever ministerial-level meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Central Asian Countries.

Bilateral relations

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia recognized the independence of the Republic of Tajikistan on January 11, 1992. Diplomatic relations were established between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on February 22, 1992.

The Saudi Embassy in Dushanbe was opened in 2010 and the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Riyadh was opened in September 2008.

The President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, has paid five official and working visits (1997, 2001, 2005, 2016 and 2017) to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which play a key and influential role in the development of bilateral relations.

The President of the Republic of Tajikistan met with the King and Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, as well as other high-ranking officials of the country during these visits.

The inter-parliamentary cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of the important tools of bilateral relations.

A summit of Arab-Muslim and the American States was held in Riyadh in 2017, which was attended by the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, who addressed a meeting with several heads of Muslim states.

The Republic of Tajikistan has established fruitful cooperation with the Saudi Fund and Islamic Development Bank for Development in the areas of health and education, road infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and others.
