Singapore, 16 August 2022 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, Mukhtar Tileuberdi, is making an official visit to Singapore for the very first time.

During this visit, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister held talks with Foreign Minister of Singapore, Vivian Balakrishnan, and Minister of Manpower and Second Minister of Trade and Industry, Tan See Leng.

The delegation along with Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister included the Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development, Kairbek Uskenbayev.

Another important diplomat in the delegation included the Governor of Astana International Financial Centre, Kairat Kelimbetov among others. During the meeting, both sides discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation.

Some of the key issues included the schedule of visits at the highest level, prospects for further strengthening of trade, economic, investment, transport and logistics, and cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

The discussion also took place about the role of Kazakhstan and Singapore in serving as transit and logistics hubs to Eurasia and Southeast Asia.

Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister said both countries have common and similar views on major international issues. He said “Singapore is one of Kazakhstan’s main political partners in Southeast Asia.

For three decades, we have established a trusting political dialogue and important economic and cultural ties.”

Both sides exchanged views on a wide range of issues on the international agenda. In the meeting, the Minister noted the importance of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Trade and Economy

The issues concerning bilateral trade and economic cooperation as well as expansion of legal framework were also discussed.

The two sides also noted the existing potential for deepening and expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.

Both sides further noted a positive trend in the bilateral trade turnover which amounted to $1 billion in 2021.

Kazakhstan-Singapore Business Council

Foreign Minister Tileuberdi also took part in the official launching event of the Kazakhstan-Singapore Business Council. This business association includes large companies like CPG International, Kusto Group, ZNC Enviroventures, and others.

The Kazakhstan-Singapore Business Council is aimed at facilitating trade and investment between the two countries. It is also designed to create a bilateral link and be a catalyst for bilateral business cooperation in business circles.

With the support of the two Embassies in both countries, the Council will also look upon the enhancement of tourism and other initiatives.
