Madrid, 12 July 2022 (TDI): Ministerial Meeting of the Southern European Countries (MED 9) was attended by the Foreign Minister of Cyprus, Ioannis Kasoulides. Later, he will go to London for a series of meetings.

According to a press release from the Ministry, the gathering in Madrid will provide the groundwork for the upcoming summit of the MED9 heads of state, which will take place in the autumn.

Agenda of MED9 Summit

The epidemic, the conflict in Ukraine, the energy and food crises, methods to improve the EU-Southern Neighborhood relationship policy, and the EU Migration and Asylum agreement are just a few of the issues that ministers will be discussing.

Prior to the MED9, the Foreign Minister of Cyprus Kasoulides met with his Spanish counterpart, Jose Manuel Albares Bueno.

Both Foreign Ministers discussed their bilateral relations, the Cyprus issue, and other current affairs of mutual interest.

The All-party Parliamentary Group for Cyprus, in association with the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK, will host an event in the House of Commons on July 13 at which the Foreign Minister will serve as the keynote speaker.

Cyprus Minister will attend a banquet hosted by the Youth of the World Federation of Overseas Cypriots UK to celebrate its 20th anniversary the following day.

On his visit to London, Kasoulides will be welcomed by Sir Lindsay Hoyle, the Speaker of the House of Commons.

Furthermore, he will meet with Tom Tugendhat, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the British Parliament, and Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain.

In addition, he will meet with representatives from the British government and take part in a roundtable discussion hosted by the Chatham House think tank.

MED9: An Overview

MED9 is a coalition of nine Mediterranean and Southern European Union members, including Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia, and Spain.

It is also known as EU Med, Euro-Med9. They are a part of the Mediterranean Basin and have Greek-Roman ancestry. All these states are part of the European Union (EU).
