First gold medal for Turkey in Olympics

Tokyo: August 03, 2021- (TDI): Turkey’s Mete Gazoz won a gold medal for his country in Archery. The 22-year-old won the first gold for his nation Turkey at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Mete Gazoz who won the gold medal was a Turkish first in archery because usually South Koreans monopolize the titles in this game.

He faced the Italian archer Mauro Nespoli in the final, but Mete Gazoz a 22-year-old guy won the match 6-4 and bagged the gold medal in Olympics. The 22-year-old was born into the sport as the son of a national champion archer, concedes that he is normally quite a nervous person.

Gazoz returned home by receiving a hero’s welcome by various fans and officials at the Istanbul airport. He stated that he is very proud and happy to win Turkey’s first archery gold medal in Olympics. The advice he gave to his younger friends was that “Keep training and never give up. Nothing is impossible.”

He represented his nation at the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Whereas the Italian archer Nespoli won a silver medal and the Japan’s Furukawa Takaharu won a bronze medal at the individual men’s final of archery.
