Washington (TDI): The US President, Donald Trump said that the terms of final Russia-Ukraine peace agreement is under discussion.
After the Oval Office meeting with NATO Chief, Mark Rutte, the US President Donald trump said that Steve Witkoff, his Special Envoy to the Middle East, is currently having serious discussions with Russia regarding ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
He further hoped that Russia would agree to a ceasefire and do “the right thing.”
Referring to the casualties during the war in Ukraine, he said that thousands of young people are being killed every week, and “we want to see that stop.”

Talking to the reporters on the issue, President Trump also stated, “Now we’re going to see if Russia is there and, if not, it will be a very disappointing moment for the world.”
Russia Urges US to Address the Root Cause
The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, supported the US proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine, but said that the plan needs to address the root causes of the conflict.

While talking to the reporters at Kremlin on Thursday, the Russian President said, “We agree with the proposals to cease hostilities,” and “The idea itself is correct, and we certainly support it.”
However, he refrained from saying whether Russia would immediately implement ceasefire or not. He also emphasized on achieving a long-term peace that would address and eliminate the root causes of the crisis.

He further stated that there is a need to guarantee that a similar conflict does not arise in the future.
Russia has also presented a list of demands to the US for resumption of diplomatic ties, and the end of war in Ukraine.
Ukraine Accuses Russia of Postponing the Peace
The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, accused Russia of prolonging the war and postponing the peace, and hoped that pressure from the United States would be sufficient to compel Russia to end the war.

He said, “Regrettably, for more than a day already, the world has yet to hear a meaningful response from Russia to the proposals made. This once again demonstrates that Russia seeks to prolong the war and postpone peace for as long as possible.
President Zelenskyy also stated that Ukraine is “committed to move quickly towards peace” and is prepared to create the conditions required to achieve a “reliable, durable and decent peace.”

He also highlighted the need to control such a ceasefire and appreciated the US’ willingness to organize technical aspects of such a control.
On March 11, the Ukrainian team met with the delegation from the United States, in Jeddah, to discuss the terms of a peace deal with Russia.

During the meeting, the Ukrainian delegation proposed a three-point agenda which included: stopping aerial strikes; pausing attacks at sea; and release of prisoners of war and return of children who were forcibly transferred to Russia.
The US delegation also urged Ukraine to stop land skirmishes, which was gladly accepted by the Ukraine. United States, in return, resumed intelligence sharing and satellite imagery to Ukraine.
Recently, Russia had begun counter-offensive attacks on the Ukrainian forces present in the Western Russian region of Kursk.
According to the Russian military, the Ukrainian forces now hold less than 200 square kilometers in Kursk, down from 1500 square kilometers it acquired in last summer. It is important to note that President Zelenskyy had planned to use the Ukrainian forces’ invasion of Kursk region in his negotiations with President Putin.
