Final Destination Bloodlines Opens With Incredible $102M Weekend

California (TDI): Death has never looked so wildly entertaining. Warner Bros’ “Final Destination: Bloodlines” has shattered franchise records with a staggering $102 million global opening weekend, marking the biggest debut for the long-running horror series since its inception in 2000.

Returning after a 14-year hiatus, the sixth instalment in the franchise proves that the appeal of creatively chaotic demise hasn’t lost its edge.

The film’s ingenious kill sequences — involving everything from a lawn mower to a vending machine — showcase the franchise’s signature style: turning everyday objects into elaborate death traps.

Co-directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein lean into the absurdity, crafting Rube Goldberg-like chain reactions that keep viewers guessing not if someone will die, but how.

Set across two timelines, the film opens in 1969 at the Skyview Tower, where a romantic dinner spirals into catastrophe.

This dramatic sequence sets the tone for the rest of the film, as the story fast-forwards to modern-day college student Stefani (Kaitlyn Santa Juana), whose recurring nightmares uncover a chilling family secret: her grandmother Iris was the lone survivor of the Skyview disaster, and Death has now come for their bloodline.

This is a dark game of fate that mixes humor with horror. Both critics and fans have pointed out that although there is a lot of blood, the jokes make it easier to watch. “A spoonful of wit helps the bloody chaos go down,” one critic said, admitting they laughed during the violence.

Tony Todd returns in a chilling final appearance as William Bloodworth, reminding longtime fans that in this universe, there’s no escaping fate — only delaying it.

With “Bloodlines” outperforming expectations and quickly climbing 2025’s box office charts alongside Thunderbolts and The Minecraft Movie, it’s clear the horror genre is experiencing a commercial renaissance.

Yet Final Destination stands apart — less a metaphorical monster tale and more a darkly comedic meditation on the absurdity of existence.

Whether you’re a longtime fan or a first-time viewer peeking through your fingers, one thing is certain: Death has a plan, and it’s never been more fun to watch it unfold.
