EU Commissioner visits Egypt

Cairo, 16 November 2021 (TDI): EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson pays a visit to Egypt. The purpose of the visit is to meet with Egyptian government representatives and develop a migration management program.

Furthermore, she met with the Foreign minister of Egypt Sameh Shoukry. Additionally, both discuss a detailed outline of regional migration patterns.

Further, EU Commissioner also met with the Egyptian Minister of Immigration and Egyptian expatriates, Nabila Makram. Both portrayed a strong commitment to support and promote women’s rights and opportunities for women in society.

Likewise, the Egyptian Minister shows advocacy to reduce illegal and irregular pathways migration. The Ministry outlines the legal pathways for migration.

Ylva Johanson also payed a visit to the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb. Both discussed efforts to prevent radicalization and extremism. Moreover, both emphasized the need to promote co-existence, understanding between religions with the help of interfaith dialogue.

EU and Egypt are close partners. Ylva Johanson states that, “the European Union is ready to increase cooperation, with financial support for migration.”
