Berlin, 27 June 2022 (TDI): President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen represented the EU at the 48th G7 Summit in Germany.


The 48th G7 Summit, the annual meeting of the leading democratic economies held in Germany’s Bavarian Alps from 26th to 28th June. The Summit promoted progress, prosperity, peace, and security for nations.

According to the President of the European Council, the EU and the G7 share the same objectives.

EU’s objectives

EU’s key objective at the 48th Summit was the actions to support Ukraine and sanction Russia.

Secondly, it shared the news of membership of Ukraine to the EU.

Thirdly, it highlighted global climate ambition.

Subsequently, it supported the energy transition partnership, welcomed the Climate Club initiative, and discussed the EU’s fight for gender equality

Lastly, it highlighted the EU’s commitment to safeguarding the freedom and integrity of information in the digital sphere.

Working sessions

There were seven working sessions at the G7 Summit that chiefly focused on the global economy, partnerships for developing countries, foreign and security policy, sustainability, food security, multilateralism, and digital transformation.

The German presidency had invited countries like Argentina, India, Indonesia, Senegal, and South African leaders to several working sessions of the G7 summit.


The leaders adopted a joint statement at the end of the Summit.

The G7 

G7 as a forum plays an important role in global challenges, and global economic coordination carried out by the G20. 

Apart from this, it brings leaders from the EU and the countries of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the USA together.

Previously, in 2021, the G7 summit was held in Cornwall, UK.
