EU Ambassador Pays Farewell Call on Prime Minister Shehbaz

Islamabad (TDI): Ambassador Riina Kionka, Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Pakistan, paid a farewell call on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, at the Prime Minister’s House.

While congratulating the Ambassador on the successful completion of her tenure in Pakistan, the PM thanked her for making important contributions in strengthening Pakistan-EU relations. He particularly appreciated the Ambassador’s efforts in ensuring support from the EU during the 2022 floods in Pakistan.

PM Shehbaz acknowledged the EU as one of Pakistan’s largest trading partners and reaffirmed commitment to the GSP Plus scheme, which has so far proved to be mutually beneficial for both sides.

He also conveyed his good wishes for EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and said that he looks forward to meeting her in the coming days. Important issues between Pakistan and the EU, including domestic political developments, also came under discussion.

Ambassador Kionka thanked the PM for all the support she received during her diplomatic assignment in Pakistan. She said that the EU is committed to maintaining cooperation with Pakistan.

While expressing gratitude for the Prime Minister’s good wishes, she said that she will continue to promote stronger Pakistan-EU relations in her next assignment in Brussels.
