Pakistan and Ethiopia share a longstanding relationship deeply rooted in mutual respect, diplomatic cooperation, and a shared vision for regional and global stability.
Formal relations were established in 1973 during President Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s historic visit to Ethiopia.
Ties were further strengthened with the inauguration of Pakistan’s Embassy in Addis Ababa.
The move to deepen engagement, the Ethiopian government reciprocated by establishing its Embassy in Islamabad in 2022, marking a new chapter in the diplomatic partnership between the two nations.
Over the years, the relationship evolved beyond diplomatic formalities, with both countries actively exploring avenues to increase economic and trade cooperation.
The milestone was achieved in February 2023 when Pakistan and Ethiopia signed a Bilateral Trade Agreement, aimed at strengthening stronger commercial ties.
