Ethiopian Envoy, RCCI Agree on Direct Industry Level Linkages

Islamabad (TDI): The Ethiopian Ambassador to Pakistan, Jemal Beker, met President of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), Usman Shaukat, along with his delegation, at the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad.

The meeting focused on exploring initiatives to strengthen trade and investment relations between Ethiopia and Pakistan.

“We had discussed various initiatives for strengthening trade and investment relations between our two brotherly countries,” the Ambassador said as he recalled the meeting in a post on X.

During the meeting, Ambassador Jemal Beker highlighted Ethiopia’s “homegrown” economic reforms and the vast opportunities they have created for investment from other countries.

He briefed the delegation of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) on the specific business, trade, and investment prospects in Ethiopia.

These reforms have significantly improved the ease of doing business, opened new avenues for foreign investment, and enhanced Ethiopia’s economic resilience, Ambassador Beker emphasized.

Talking about strengthening the institutional linkages between Ethiopia and Pakistan, the Ambassador stated, “We have agreed on establishing institutional linkages between the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and its counterpart in Ethiopia.”

President of Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Usman Shaukat, thanked the Ethiopian Ambassador for the invitation and expressed his appreciation for Ethiopia’s growing role as a hub for investment in Africa.

He reiterated the commitment of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry to expanding economic engagement between the two countries.

Both sides agreed to collaborate on initiatives that would facilitate direct business links, investment forums, and trade delegations to explore sector-specific opportunities.

Last month, Ethiopia and Pakistan agreed to promote parliamentary diplomacy for bilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation in diverse areas of economy, trade, investment, aviation, climate change, peace and security, culture and tourism.

Ambassador Jemal Beker had briefed the Senate Chairman about the initiatives taken by Ethiopia for regional integration, and also its leading role in ensuring peace and security in the Horn of Africa through joint counter-terrorism initiatives with neighboring states.

He had emphasized on strengthening bilateral collaboration in different areas, particularly after the exchange of business and trade delegations between the two countries, and the launching of Ethiopian Airlines in Karachi.

In 2022, Ethiopia opened its Embassy in Pakistan and since then, it has actively engaged in strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation between Ethiopia and Pakistan.
