Islamabad (TDI): The Ethiopian Embassy in Pakistan, led by Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula, joined hands with Pakistani citizens along with representatives from Pakistan’s Ministry of climate change to actively support Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative which reflects the strong commitment to climate diplomacy and environmental awareness by planting trees.
The initiative Green Legacy of Ethiopia in Pakistan is a diplomatic extension of Ethiopia’s nationwide plantation campaign which was launched by Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister Ethiopia, in August 2023 in Islamabad in an inaugural tree planting ceremony on the embassy grounds which marked the entry of Green Legacy Initiative in Pakistan.
This initiative was designed to address climate-related issues, environmental awareness, plantation, preserve environment and to ensure sustainable development.

In a symbolic gesture of international unity and solidarity where the Pakistani nation joined hands with the Ethiopian embassy to plant trees and reaffirms a shared commitment towards fighting climate change is based on previous events across Pakistan under Ethiopia’s Green Legacy banner.
In April 2024, there was a tree planting drive under Ethio-Pakistan Fraternity program in Sialkot university that brought Ethiopian diplomats, Pakistani academics and students together to promote youth-led climate action.
The Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad is actively engaged in promoting diplomatic relations in trade, education and environment.

Since the launch of Green Legacy Initiative in Pakistan, it has collaborated with government agencies, educational institutions and civil society to spread awareness about environment and to promote “Hands that green a nation”
The Ethiopian Embassy sets an example that they can serve as platforms for climate diplomacy and growing roots of sustainability. Through this initiative, Pakistan and Ethiopia are on same page of a greener and healthier planet achieved through collective efforts.
These steps marked the start of Ethiopian climate diplomacy in Pakistan which blends environmental action with bilateral cooperation.
