Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) Thursday agreed to promote parliamentary diplomacy between the two countries for further strengthening the bilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation in various areas of mutual interest.
This was discussed during a meeting between the Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Special Envoy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the FDR Ethiopia to Pakistan, H.E. Dr Jemal Beker Abdula.
During the meeting, both sides discussed the establishment of a Pak-Ethiopia Parliamentary Friendship Group. The core purpose of this group will be to strengthen relations between the two countries with the help of parliamentary channels.

On this occasion, Ambassador Dr Jemal Beker briefed the Speaker on Ethiopia’s regional integration efforts and its role in ensuring peace and security in the Horn of Africa.
He also highlighted Ethiopia’s economic reforms, designed to address macroeconomic challenges, boost productivity, and attract foreign direct investment.
The Ambassador said developments like the opening of Ethiopia’s Embassy in Islamabad, the start of Ethiopian Airlines’ operations in Karachi, and the exchange of business delegations over the last two years are testament to improving relations between the two countries.

Dr Beker also informed the Speaker about a Single Country Exhibition to be held in Addis Ababa in early 2025. He emphasized Ethiopia’s strategic position as a gateway to Africa, with a population of over 1.4 billion, and expressed Ethiopia’s readiness to support Pakistan’s Look Africa and Engage Africa policy.
The NA Speaker reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to increasing its presence in Africa through the “Look Africa and Engage Africa” policy. He said the launch of Ethiopian Airlines in Karachi has improved connectivity between the two nations.
Both sides agreed to collaborate on global challenges, particularly focusing on climate change management.
