Islamabad, 14 August 2024 (TDI): The Embassy of the Netherlands hosted a special reception to honor the incredible achievements of women in sports.

The event celebrated the dedication, talent, and perseverance displayed by female athletes worldwide, the embassay said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Dutch-Pakistani football player Kayanat Bokhari were also among the attendees. She has been in Islamabad for nearly a month, playing for the Women Legacy Football Club.

The Women Legacy team was also congratulated for their remarkable performance as the runners-up of the National Women’s Championship this past weekend.

Commenting on the occasion, Ambassador Henny de Vries said, “Historically, females in sports have faced challenges such as lack of funding, discrimination, and unequal opportunities.

Despite these obstacles, female athletes continue to excel, inspiring future generations to dream big. The embassy acknowledges the importance of sports diplomacy in strengthening relations between Pakistan and the Netherlands.

Collaborations in sports have proven to have a positive impact, as witnessed during the visit of a Dutch hockey club earlier this year.”

The ambassador said that the embassy is committed to further engaging in sports-focused events and activities between the countries.

The event was attended by esteemed guests, including sports personalities, diplomats, media representatives, and other stakeholders committed to promoting sports and international cooperation.
