Islamabad, 21 June 2023 (TDI): The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Islamabad organized a reception at the Marriott Hotel to mark the 105th Anniversary of the Azerbaijan Armed Forces. The event was attended by dignitaries and diplomats, including the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, Khazar Farhadov.
Glorious History of Azerbaijan Armed Forces
During his address, Ambassador Khazar Farhadov highlighted the historical significance of the occasion, stating, “Azerbaijan is celebrating the 105th anniversary of the establishment of the Armed Forces. Undoubtedly, the peak of the warpath of our National Army during this period is the glorious Victory gained in the Patriotic War, Karabakh Victory. There has been no similar Victory in the centuries-old history of our nation.”
He emphasized that on June 26, 1918, the Combined Azerbaijan Corps, the first regular military unit, was formed by the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
Subsequently, on August 1, 1918, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan was established with the goal of creating an army of 25 thousand personnel.
Advancements under President Ilham Aliyev’s Leadership
Ambassador Farhadov commended President Ilham Aliyev for spearheading the development of the Azerbaijani armed forces.
He highlighted the administration’s commitment to enhancing military professionalism, improving the soldiers’ morale, and supplying the Armed Forces with state-of-the-art weaponry and equipment.

Strong Bonds between Pakistan and Azerbaijan
The Ambassador also emphasized the deep-rooted friendship between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, stating that both nations share a common Turkish heritage and a profound affinity for each other.
He referenced the recent successful visit of the Prime Minister of Pakistan to Azerbaijan, during which discussions were held on various bilateral matters, including trade, investment, energy cooperation, defense industry, and the expansion of direct flights.
Colonel Mehman Novruzov, Azerbaijan’s Defence Attaché to Pakistan, addressed the audience, commending the Azerbaijan Armed Forces for their resilience, dedication, and commitment to safeguarding the nation’s security and territorial integrity.
Commemorating Azerbaijan Armed Forces Day
Azerbaijan Armed Forces Day, celebrated annually on June 26, holds significant importance for the nation. It marks the re-establishment of the armed forces following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.
The day is dedicated to honoring and appreciating the sacrifices, bravery, and devotion of the men and women serving in the Azerbaijani armed forces. The celebrations include parades, fireworks, and official processions held across the country.
Diplomatic Presence and Speculations
Notable figures present at the reception included Turkish Ambassador Mehmet Paçaci, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan, and the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Atadjan Movlamov.
