Barcelona, 30 November 2021 (TDI): Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri attended the 6th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM). The UfM meet-up aims to promote cooperation across the Mediterranean region in various fields. These fields include climate change, environment, creating jobs, digital transformation, and sustainable socio-economic development.
Along with the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Foreign Ministers of members states also attended the event. High Representatives of European Union Commission Josep Borrell Fontelles and Foreign Minister of Jordan Ayman Safadi chaired the event, while Spain’s Foreign Minister hosted the UfM event.
Several summits were also held on the sidelines of the forum. Likewise, the focus of these was regional integration between member states and the Mediterranean region.

Meetings at the Sideline of UFM Regional Forum
On the UfM meet-up margins, the Egyptian Foreign Minister met with Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares. Both discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between Spain and Egypt. Likewise, they also talked about issues of common concern, including promoting both country’s relations in combating climate change, health, transport, tourism, and increasing investment.

Moreover, Minister Sameh Shoukri also met with his Luxembourg counterpart, Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn. Likewise, both discussed various fields of cooperation between Egypt and Luxemburg.
Similarly, the Egyptian Foreign Minister also held a meeting with Slovenian Foreign Minister Anze Logar. The meeting focused on increasing bilateral cooperation and economic opportunities between Slovenia and Egypt. Further, both talked about regional and international issues of mutual concern.
As well, on the sidelines of the UfM meetings, the Egyptian Foreign Minister met with the EU Commissioner for Neighborhood & Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi. Both discussed ways to enhance the partnership between the EU and Egypt.
Union for the Mediterranean
Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) is an intergovernmental institution. It is comprised of 42 member states. Likewise, UfM promotes cooperation and dialogue in the Euro Mediterranean region. The mission of UfM is to enhance dialogue, regional cooperation, and the implementation of projects in the member states.
UMF Organization addresses three strategic objectives; Integration, Human Development, and Stability in the region.
