Berlin, 18 July 2022 (TDI): Sameh Shoukry, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, and COP27 President Designate met and engaged with climate and environment Ministers and high-level officials from close to 40 countries.

The meetings were held at the Petersberg Climate Dialogue, being held today, in Berlin, Germany.

13th Edition of Petersberg Climate Dialogue

This is the 13th edition of the series of dialogue to talk about environmental and climate-related issues. Germany and Egypt co-hosted the 2022 edition of the Petersberg Climate Dialogue.

The proceedings were led by Egyptian Foreign Minister Shoukry and his co-host and German counterpart, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.

The Petersberg Climate Dialogue aims to ensure and prioritize environmental issues such as climate change and global warming. Leaders from different nations try to find solutions to climate-related problems.

Environment Ministers from close to 40 countries focus on key discussion points on the global climate agenda. This year the main point of dialogue was to strengthen trust both in multilateral climate negotiations and between states.

Preparation for COP27

The Petersberg Climate Dialogue is an event organized by Germany since 2009. It is held to prepare the agenda for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP).

This year’s meeting of government representatives from 40 countries serves to discuss major climate protection agreements and focuses on preparations for the COP27 World Climate Conference in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

Highlights from Petersberg Climate Dialogue

The Foreign Minister of Egypt at the occasion said that the forum is instrumental to raise a voice for climate-related problems amidst global tensions like energy prices, food security, and global supply chains.

Egypt holds the presidency for COP27 and referred to this platform as inclusive. He affirmed that every country will have the opportunity to show its progress and priorities.
