Dushanbe: July 16, 2021 –(TDI): The SCO CFM meeting was held on 13-14 July in Dushanbe. The meeting resulted in the discussion of different matters between the foreign ministers of member states. On a historic note, the Shanghai Cooperation organization has also decided to add Egypt and Saudi Arabia as the new dialogue partners of SCO.
Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin during a press conference after the meeting announced the expansion of SCO by adding in the new dialogue partners.
FM Muhriddin further informed that the decision of adding the two states in the framework will be submitted for approval to the top decision-making body of SCO i.e. Council of Heads of Member states in the coming SCO meeting this September. Currently, SCO comprises 8 member states, 6 dialogue partners, and 4 observer states.
Other than this development in the SCO CFM meeting, the ministers highlighted the achievements of SCO in the past 20 years, discussed the current Afghan situation and its implications on regional peace and stability, regional economic recovery in the post COVID era and much more.
