The National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan held the second General Conference of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Economic Cooperation Organization (PAECO) on June 1-2, 2021, with the subject “Promoting Parliamentary Partnership for Regional Integration.”
It highlighted ways for the ECO region’s poverty and prosperity to be alleviated by joint and ongoing parliamentary efforts. Regional commerce was no longer a choice but a requirement at a time when a pandemic was causing global economic ramifications and the globe was heading toward trade protectionism.
The second session emphasized the need to facilitate transit commerce through trade globalization, digitization, infrastructure development, and ECO-agreed trade arrangements.
During the third session of the Parliamentary Assembly, members pledged to increase people-to-people interactions through visa liberalization, tourism promotion, and cultural events.
The Conference strives to improve people-to-people interactions among member nations as well as economic and commercial links in order to support the ECO region’s long-term socio-economic growth.
The occurrence of this conference will be the success of the Azerbaijani parliament’s effort for strengthening Parliamentary diplomacy. The formulation of the Parliamentary Assembly of ECO is the result of ECO Members’ effort to promote regional cooperation as the Secretariat of PAECO.
