Lahore, 7 July 2022 (TDI): The Ambassador of the Netherlands to Pakistan, Wouter Plomp visited the famous National Hockey Stadium and played hockey with the Under 13 teams.

The Ambassador was touched by his visit to the national hockey stadium as it brought memories of the 1990 hockey world cup final.
Pakistan and the Netherlands played in the final. The Netherlands defeated Pakistan in the match to become the World Champion.
The Ambassador said, ‘‘It was emotional for me to enter the legendary Lahore Hockey stadium of the world cup final in 1990’’.
Moreover, He played hockey with under 13 teams as well. “And it felt even better to play hockey with under 13 teams of boys and girls.’’, He added.
Later on, the Ambassador was greeted by the monsoon rain which added more joy to his visit to the stadium.
Furthermore, He appreciated the Government of Punjab’s efforts for the revival of Pakistan’s national sport.
He said, ‘’The talent hunt and promotion of hockey at the grass-root level is the only way forward to bring back its lost glory.’’.

Previously, The Dutch Ambassador met the PCB chairman to organize the first ODI series between Pakistan and the Netherlands.

1990 Hockey World Cup
The 1990 Men’s Hockey World Cup was the seventh edition of the Hockey World Cup and was held from 12 to 23 February in Lahore.
In the semi-finals, Pakistan defeated Australia by 2-1 while the Netherlands beat Germany 3-2 in extra time to advance to the finals.
Similarly, The Netherlands defeated Pakistan by 3–1 in the final, and Australia beat Germany for third place in extra time, 2–1.
Moreover, a total of 147 goals were scored during the 42 matches
While the Player of the tournament was Shahbaz Ahmad from Pakistan.
Moreover, Pakistan is the most successful country when it comes to hockey.
And, Pakistan is the only country in the world with a record of four championships in the Hockey World Cup.
And, Former Pakistani captain Sohail Abbas holds the world record for the most international goals in the history of international field hockey, with a total of 348 goals.
