Diplomatic activity surges amidst Dubai Expo 2020

Dubai, 15 November 2021 (TDI): Dubai Expo 2020 has attracted global attention as the world witnesses a downward trend of pandemics. Countries have set up pavilions to showcase their economic potential in the United Arab Emirates.

Diplomatic activities

UAE, Greece, and Cyprus leaders have held a tripartite meeting this week. UAE Chief of Staff received Saudi and Korean counterparts to discuss defense cooperation. UAE Crown Prince is also expected to soon visit Turkey after UAE Foreign Minister’s visit to Syria. The country has successfully managed to conduct military, economic & trade, sport, and other forms of diplomacy.

Visitors

The first month was a great success as it witnessed 2.35 million visitors. People hailing from 185 nationalities have visited the area. Moreover, almost 30% of visitors were teenagers and the cooler months ahead promise more visitors. In addition, approximately 20% of visitors came from overseas.

Activities and Themes

The Trade Expo has led to high-profile sideline events which include cultural and religious interactions, musical events, sports, seminars (education, health, public policy, etc), diplomatic engagements, and business meetings. The month-long International Twenty20 Cricket World Cup ended on 14 November. The sporting event led to a huge number of visitors to the Trade Expo 2020.

Moreover, Pakistan Pavilion has reported huge success. The musical event of famous Pakistani singer Atif Aslam is scheduled for this week which is going to attract more visitors. Themes in the context of Climate, Women in politics, and Tolerance & Diversity have also been launched in the current week. $7 Million dollars have been reportedly spent over 8 years to provide the atmosphere and environment to cater to requirements.

As well, the ease in travel restrictions has led UAE to become a major travel destination and hub for activity. Muslim World League has also launched ‘Lives of Prophets’ themes.
