Copenhagen, 05 October 2021, The Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs Jeppe Kofod met parliamentary leaders to discuss Denmark’s future with Afghanistan. Danish Minister for Development and Nordic Cooperation Flemming Moller Mortensen was also present during the discussion.
Denmark had safely evacuated its personnel from Afghanistan with the help of Pakistan. Over 700 Danish soldiers were stationed in Afghanistan. Denmark closely aided with US efforts for evacuation in Kabul. The Danish Foreign Minister has emphasized the need to engage the Taliban to achieve better results.
Denmark has been very active with respect to Afghanistan following the Taliban takeover.
The Danish Foreign Minister visited Pakistan on 01 October 2021. He met Shah Mehmood Qureshi, his counterpart, and discussed with him matters pertaining to the future security issues related to Afghanistan. He also met with the Pakistani Prime Minister, Imran Khan to discuss matters of importance regarding Afghanistan.
The Danish Foreign Minister has expressed his concerns for the women and children under Taliban rule. Denmark has pledged half over 50 million dollars worth of humanitarian aid for Afghanistan.
During the years of war, Denmark had supported Afghan refugees through Danish Committee for Aid to Afghan Refugees. Denmark contributed around 80 million dollars a year to health and relief facilities in Afghanistan. Denmark is also home to around ten thousand Afghans.
