Former footballer David Beckham recently teamed up with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to launch a global fundraising campaign to protect girls and young women from abuse.
A month-long series of events would begin to celebrate the 50th birthday of the former football star during which funds would be raised for the cause.
The goal of this fundraising is to improve the lives of children around the world and protect girls and young women from harmful societal practices such as child marriage, domestic abuse, and female genital mutilation.
The world is a very tough place for millions of children and a global funding crisis is leaving them more vulnerable.
In response, ahead of his 50th birthday, David Beckham is launching a fundraiser for UNICEF, to help children dream and thrive.

The stories of such girls would be shared on David Beckham’s social media accounts during the campaign.
David Beckham, a long-time Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF, stated about this partnership, “We are witnessing a global funding crisis in which the most vulnerable children are suffering the most and urgently need our help.”
Talking about his work with UNICEF, he said, “As I look back, some of the moments that have had the most impact on me have come through my work with UNICEF.”
“Next month, I turn 50. It’s a major milestone that has made me think about the opportunities I’ve had and the experiences that have shaped me,” the football star added

The 49-year-old former football player and a father of four appreciated the fact that his family is safe and his children have access to education and healthcare.
He emphasized the need to help and provide for the children living in tough conditions and said, “I’ve met children living in the toughest situations all over the world and I’ve seen what can happen when they are given the support they need to take control of their lives.”
“Today, 25 years since my first visit to a women’s center in Thailand, the world is a very difficult place for children – especially girls,” he noted.
David Beckham became the Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF for the first time in 2005, and since then he has been a champion of promoting women’s rights.
