Dar, Rubio Discuss Trade, Security Ties

Islamabad (TDI): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, held a productive telephone conversation with US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, on Monday.

During the call, both leaders discussed enhancing bilateral trade and investment, with particular focus on critical minerals between the two nations.

They also exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in counterterrorism and addressing key regional challenges and to establish stability.

Senator Dar and Secretary Rubio agreed to maintain close contact and continue negotiations on issues of mutual interest.

The discussion underscored the shared commitment of both countries to deepening and expanding the Pakistan-US relationship in multiple sectors.

Notably, both sides also discussed the evolving situation in Afghanistan.

Secretary Rubio noted the importance of addressing the issue of US military equipment left behind, and emphasized the need for collaborative efforts.

While discussing security matters, Ishaq Dar briefed Secretary Rubio on Pakistan’s significant efforts in combatting terrorism, particularly between 2013 and 2018—a period during which Pakistan endured major economic and human losses while dismantling terrorist networks.

Secretary Rubio appreciated Pakistan’s sacrifices and contributions to global security and reaffirmed the US commitment to enhancing counterterrorism cooperation with Pakistan.

This engagement follows a series of high-level interactions aimed at reinforcing the longstanding partnership between the two nations.
