New York (TDI): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Ishaq Dar, landed in the United States on Sunday evening to participate in a series of high-level events at the United Nations headquarters in New York, as part of Pakistan’s presidency of the UN Security Council (UNSC) this month.
Dar was received at the airport by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad.
Pakistan assumed the rotating presidency of the Security Council on July 1, 2025, for the month, under its current term as a non-permanent member which began in January this year.
During his stay in New York, Senator Dar is scheduled to chair several key sessions, including a high-level open debate titled “Promoting International Peace and Security through Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes.”

According to the Foreign Office, the debate aims to explore effective pathways for strengthening international diplomacy, mediation, and peaceful conflict resolution through multilateral cooperation.
Another major engagement includes presiding over the Council’s quarterly open debate on “The Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question.”
Dar will also lead a special briefing focused on bolstering cooperation between the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), highlighting Pakistan’s role in promoting coordinated efforts for global peace and stability.

A significant highlight of his visit will be his participation in an international conference focused on “The Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and Implementation of the Two-State Solution.” The event, organized jointly by France and Saudi Arabia, had previously been postponed amid heightened tensions between Iran and Israel.
Through these forums, Pakistan aims to underscore its longstanding support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and a just resolution based on the two-state framework.
In addition to engagements at the United Nations, Dar is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with fellow foreign ministers and senior UN officials. Later in the week, he will reportedly travel to Washington for discussions with US counterpart Marco Rubio on matters of mutual interest.
“This visit reflects Pakistan’s active multilateral diplomacy and growing engagement with global and regional actors on issues critical to international peace and security,” read a statement from the Foreign Office.
The trip comes shortly after Pakistan officially endorsed a proposal nominating US President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, in recognition of his role in easing tensions between Pakistan and India earlier this year.
