New York (TDI): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi have reaffirmed the importance of dialogue, diplomacy and sustained engagement to promote peace and stability in the region during a meeting on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the two foreign ministers discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and international developments during their meeting in New York on Thursday.
Dar underscored the importance of continued diplomatic engagement in addressing regional challenges, while both sides agreed to remain in close contact.
The meeting came amid heightened regional tensions and continued diplomatic efforts involving Pakistan, Iran and the United States.
Dar and Araghchi had last met in Bishkek on September 1 on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, where they discussed bilateral ties and regional developments.

During that meeting, Dar had stressed that dialogue and diplomacy remained essential for regional peace and stability and described implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran as the way forward.
The two ministers also spoke by telephone earlier this month and agreed to meet in New York. During their September 19 conversation, Dar stressed the importance of uninterrupted energy supplies and safe maritime passage, while reiterating Pakistan’s position that dialogue and diplomacy were essential to maintaining regional stability.
