Cuban Ambassador to Djibouti Bids Farewell

Djibouti City, 15 September 2021 (TDI): Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mahmoud Ali Youssouf received the Cuban Ambassador Lázaro Polledo Mesa on Tuesday.

Ambassador Mesa conveyed farewell remarks as this meeting marked the end of his diplomatic mission in Djibouti. During the meeting, Youssouf expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Mesa for the cooperation of Cuba with Djibouti in the health, sports, education, and engineering sectors to strengthen their bilateral relations. Youssouf lauded the friendship that both countries maintain. Established on November 20, 1998, both have maintained diplomatic relations based on respect.

On his part, the Cuban Ambassador expressed his gratitude to Djibouti’s Foreign Minister for the immense cooperation with the Cuban diplomatic mission.

Since 2002, hundreds of Cubans have traveled to Djibouti. 110 Djiboutians have enrolled in Cuban universities, most of them in medicine. On multiple occasions, Djibouti authorities have praised the contributions of Cuban soldiers in the Independence of African countries and in the elimination of the Apartheid regimes.
