Remarks by President of Cuba
During the meeting, Miguel Diaz-Canel pointed out the historical connections of friendship between the states.
He recalled strong relationships between Non-Aligned Movement founders, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz of Cuba, and King Father Norodom Sihanouk of Cambodia.
This official visit took place during Cambodia’s pro tempore leadership of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Similarly, this is the first visit by a senior Cambodian politician since Cuba joined the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) two years ago.
Cuba-Cambodia Diplomatic Ties
Diplomatic relations between Cuba and Cambodia have been established since 1960. Both countries have healthy bilateral ties in various sectors including trade and economics, politics, culture, health, and education.
At the international level, there is a high degree of agreement between the two states, as seen by their mutual support in international forums and organizations.
Through the exchange of visits and mutual assistance in the international arena, connections between both states are quite friendly. The Cambodia-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group is highly vibrant.
The Cuban Communist Party and the Cambodian People’s Party decided to collaborate to strengthen the traditionally cordial ties between their respective organizations. This was the consequence of an exchange of knowledge and experiences.
The recent three-day visit by the Prime Minister of Cambodia to strengthen the bilateral ties with Cuba solidifies Cambodia’s commitment to enhance its relations with Cuba.
