Dushanbe, (TDI): The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is set to adopt a comprehensive program aimed at strengthening the Tajik-Afghan border by the end of 2024, announced Secretary-General Imangali Tasmagambetov.
“Continuous efforts are being made to develop and implement targeted measures for our security space”, he said.
Tasmagambetov added that a key initiative is the CSTO Targeted Interstate Program to Reinforce the Tajik-Afghan Border, which is scheduled for adoption this year.
He emphasized that the CSTO operates on the principles of open discussions and consensus-driven decision-making.
“In addressing fundamental issues of mutual support and collective security, we act in a consolidated manner,” he remarked.

Border Initiative
The initiative to bolster the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border was first proposed in 2013 and is structured in three phases, with the initial phase spanning five years.
This border, which forms part of the southern boundary of the CIS and post-Soviet territory, measures a total of 1,374.2 kilometers, including 1,184.4 kilometers of river border and 189.8 kilometers of island border.
