Costa Rican President Met with Swedish Prime Minister

New York, 22 September 2021 (TDI): The President of the Republic of Costa Rica, Carlos Álvarodo Quesada, met with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Sweden Stefan Löfven, during his visit to New York for the 76th United Nations General Assembly session, on September 20.

The interlocutors discussed the climate change concern, economic and social inequality, and Covid-19 response from both countries. President Quesada expressed his gratitude to Sweden as a partner of the High-Ambition Coalition for Nature and People to protect for 2030. With that, both parties discussed strengthening the relations and the respect to human rights that unite both countries. The leaders also highlighted why it is fundamental to work bilaterally as regions and take advantage of Costa Rica’s leadership at the General Secretariat of the Central American Integration System (SICA).

Alvarado also held reunions with the President of Croatia, Zoran Milanovic. Both parties underscored how Costa Rica has tackled Covid-19 with a solid health system. He also had a reunion with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi; Grandi celebrated Costa Rica’s will to take in 48 afghan women.
