Beijing (TDI): Apple CEO Tim Cook has reaffirmed the tech giant’s commitment to expanding its investment in China during his visit to Beijing on Wednesday.
This move, analysts suggest, underscores the significance of the Chinese market for Apple.
On his second visit to mainland China this year, Cook met with Jin Zhuanglong, China’s Minister of Industry and Information Technology.
The two discussed various topics, including Apple’s development in China, data security management, and cloud services, according to Chinese media.
Cook expressed Apple’s eagerness to capitalize on the opportunities presented by China’s continued economic opening and pledged to further contribute to the development of the country’s industrial and supply chains.
Earlier, Cook met with Yang Jie, Chairman of China Mobile, to discuss enhancing cooperation in 5G applications, as well as music and VR video services.

This meeting builds on existing collaborations between the two entities, particularly in digital content.
Cook’s visit also took him to a “science and technology backyard” in Beijing’s Shunyi District, where he interacted with Chinese college students working on projects that use Apple technology to improve agricultural efficiency.
Standout Project
One standout project, developed by students at China Agricultural University, involves an iOS app designed to provide extreme weather alerts and pest identification, aimed at boosting fruit yields.
The app is currently in testing and is expected to be available soon.
“I’m incredibly impressed by the innovative projects I’ve seen, and the students are deeply motivated to make a difference in rural communities,” Cook said.
“Their work shows how technology can help farmers increase production and improve sustainability.”

China continues to play a crucial role in Apple’s ecosystem.
In 2022, China accounted for over 51% of billings and sales from Apple’s App Store, according to a study by the Analysis Group.
During his trip, Cook also visited an Apple retail store in downtown Beijing and met with developers from the Chinese gaming company, Gala Sports.
