Strasbourg, 10 May 2022 (TDI): The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, French President Emmanuel Macron, and President of the EU Commission Ursula von der Leyen concluded the one year European Conference of the Future of Europe.
At the closing ceremony of the conference, von der Leyen acknowledged the situation in Ukraine.
She stated the significance of building a reconstruction fund to have investments in Ukraine through EU, international financial institutions and partners.
von der Leyen highlighted on the reconstruction issue. She said it will be possible through establishing necessary substantial reforms.
More to this, they received the citizens’ contributions in relation to creating a better, stronger and fairer Europe.
The Conference on the Future of Europe concluded after a year of work that constituted of collaboration between citizens and politicians.
It came to conclusion with a report centered between 49 proposals. These proposals included tangible objectives for the EU.
Nine topics presented were meant to be followed . Namely, climate change and the environment; health; a stronger economy, social justice and jobs; EU in the world; values and rights, rule of law, security; digital transformation and European democracy among other topics.
As a result of this, the proposals were founded on recommendations created by citizens who met within the European citizens’ panel, National Citizens’ panel and also on the ideas contributed on the Multilingual Platform.
President Metsola pointed out the importance of young people in terms of the vision for the future of Europe.
Later, the President thanked the participants of the conference for their contribution, via twitter.
