Global, 30 August 2023 (TDI): The 23rd Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting (CFAMM) is set to take place on September 21, 2023, in New York, coinciding with the United Nations General Assembly.

Dr. Vincent Biruta, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Rwanda, will preside over this meeting in his capacity as the CHOGM Chair-in-Office.

CFAMM serves as a crucial platform for Commonwealth Foreign Affairs ministers to collaborate in addressing everyday challenges and fostering cooperation.

This 23rd CFAMM offers an opportunity to provide updates on the implementation of mandates agreed upon during the 2022 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) and also to brief Ministers on preparations for the upcoming CHOGM in Samoa in 2024.

The primary aim of CFAMM is to encourage Ministers to contemplate how Commonwealth nations and the Secretariat can cooperate to enhance infrastructure, governance, and intra-Commonwealth connections, ultimately enhancing resilience in challenging circumstances.

In a different vein, the Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting, a significant event occurring every four years, focuses on youth policy for Commonwealth member states.

Scheduled to take place from September 11 to 15, 2023, the 10th Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting will be chaired by the Government of Pakistan and convened by the Commonwealth Secretariat at Marlborough House in London, United Kingdom.

The meeting’s overarching theme is ‘Aim Higher: Delivering More for Young People in the Commonwealth,’ with key areas such as Education, Employment, Environment, and Engagement under examination.

Furthermore, there will be cross-cutting themes for the meeting, notably Human Rights, Transformative Technology, and Disability.

These themes underscore the importance of addressing critical issues within the context of youth development and policy.

The 10th Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting aims to bring together a diverse range of participants, including Youth Ministers, senior government officials, youth representatives, youth workers, and other stakeholders from across the Commonwealth.

The ultimate goal is to foster collaboration and dialogue on youth-related policies and initiatives, thus promoting the well-being and empowerment of young people within the Commonwealth.

In summary, while the 23rd CFAMM focuses on foreign affairs cooperation among ministers within the Commonwealth, the Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting addresses youth policy and development, contributing to broader social and sustainable development goals within the Commonwealth.

Both events reflect the Commonwealth’s commitment to cooperation and progress on various fronts.
