Islamabad, 27 August 2024 (TDI): Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan said on Tuesday that government is steadfast in its commitment to reducing the tax burden on exporters.
Talking with industry representatives during a virtual meeting with the Sectoral Council for Sports Goods, he pledged to reconsider the current policy that imposes a cap of 100KW on solar energy production for export-oriented industries.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Commerce, focused on addressing the issues faced by the sports goods industry, with special attention to taxation and energy production policies.
During the discussion, Jam Kamal said this move would alleviate operational constraints and enhance the competitiveness of the sports goods sector, which heavily relies on cost-effective and sustainable energy solutions.
Moreover, he agreed to present the industry’s proposals to the National Export Development Board (NEDB), advocating for the retention of the Fixed Tax Regime.

Exporters stressed that this regime was crucial for shielding them from the potential harassment associated with the Normal Tax Regime, which involves several tax departments.
The meeting also highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to create a conducive environment for exporters, especially in the sports goods sector, which was a major contributor to the country’s economy.
