Lahore, 10 September 2024 (TI): Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Chief Minister of Punjab, has asked the relevant authorities to carry out an independent audit of the issue after receiving complaints from the public over the land acquisition by extortion.
As she and President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif of the PMLN visited Ravi Sapphire Bay in the Sheikhupura suburbs, she gave the go-ahead for the authorities to relocate the slums in the project area to appropriate locations.
A proposal to establish a dedicated team to oversee the quality of building was approved by the chief minister.
She looked over the construction at Sapphire Bay, visited the locations of the barrage and river training works, and examined the cofferdam site. She also orders for an audit of land acquisition the requests of public.
For the Ravi River City project, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif demanded that the best expert consultants in the world be hired in order to guarantee the highest possible level of construction quality.
The river training strategy was thoroughly explained to the PML-N president and the chief minister.
“The 46 km of channelization on both sides of the River Ravi will be done in three phases and 36% of the area will be reserved for forests and greenery in the project,” stated Imran Amin, Chief Executive Officer of the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA).

The Ravi River Front Project would also see the construction of three barrages and a 46-kilometer road connecting the siphon to the Hudayara drain, he continued.
In the meantime, Punjab’s Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed her determination to eradicate polio completely.
In a statement announcing the commencement of an anti-polio campaign, she stated that concerted measures ought to be undertaken to ensure the vaccination campaign across the province’s 14 districts is successful.
