CIS Leaders Denounce Nazism, Fascism Resurgence

-

Moscow (TDI): In a joint statement marking the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) urged the global community to prevent the resurgence of fascism, Nazism, and militarism, and to halt any attempts that could lead to a new world war.

The address highlighted the historical significance of the Soviet people’s triumph in what was described as the “heaviest war in human history,” attributing the victory in May 1945 to the unity, resilience, and sacrifices made by the people.

“Military brotherhood and labor courage ensured victory in the Great Patriotic War. We are proud that the peoples of our countries overcame all challenges and made an immeasurable contribution to defeating fascism,” the statement said.

CIS leaders condemned efforts to distort the history of World War II, criticizing attempts to glorify those who collaborated with Nazi forces or to downplay the role of their nations in the defeat of Nazism.

“We strongly condemn any attempts to justify the true perpetrators of the war, diminish the contribution of our peoples in defeating Nazism, or rehabilitate those who collaborated with Hitler’s regime and committed war crimes,” the statement declared.

Expressing concern over the increasing desecration of monuments dedicated to those who fought against Nazism, the leaders emphasized the importance of preserving the integrity of these memorials.

“We urge respect for all memorials and burial sites of those who fought against Nazism, ensuring unimpeded access to them and preventing acts of vandalism,” they said.

In conclusion, the CIS leaders reaffirmed their commitment to honoring the memory of those who sacrificed for freedom and peace, stressing the need for global unity in combating any resurgence of Nazism or neo-Nazism.

“Our duty is to honor the memory of those who died for peace, and to defend the just cause for which they gave their lives. We must strengthen the unity of all people of goodwill in the fight against Nazism and the threat of a new world war,” the statement concluded.
