New York, 4 November 2021 (TDI): Chinese proposed Resolution on “Promoting International Cooperation on Peaceful uses in the Context of International Security” got approved in the United Nations.
About the Resolution
The First Committee (Disarmament and International Security) approved the resolution on 3 November 2021 in its session. The Resolution got 75 votes in favor and 55 against. Therefore, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) encourages all the member states to adopt concrete measures to promote cooperation in the international community in materials and technology for peaceful usage.
Cooperation in Technology for Peaceful purposes
The States which favored this Resolution highlighted the right of all the states to exchange technology for peaceful motives. Chinese delegate expressed that this resolution will help all the delegations in moving forward constructively.
Peaceful Cooperation of Nuclear Energy
The resolution will also help to enhance the peaceful cooperation of nuclear energy between the states. The cooperation in nuclear energy will lead to innovations in science and technology. It will help developing countries greatly in their development.
Chinese Director-General views on Resolution
The Director-General of the Department of Arms Control of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China Fu Cong tweeted after the adoption of the Chinese led resolution. He said in the tweet, the adoption of the resolution is the victory of multilateralism in the world.
