Johannesburg, 24 August 2023 (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping met the Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in South Africa.
Both sides agreed to increase cooperation in various fields, such as infrastructure, technology, clean energy, and agriculture.
Chinese President urged both countries to boost the Belt and Road cooperation to high quality that will play a part in their economy.
He highlighted the relationship between China and Bangladesh, when both sides increased cooperation from traditional friendship to a strategic cooperative partnership in 2016, which has set the direction for deepening the bilateral ties.
He also expressed his support to the Bangladeshi Prime Minister in protecting sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity so that Bangladesh can maintain stability and achieve development.
Cooperation
Chinese President met Bangladeshi Prime Minister, he added that China is willing to work with Bangladesh to help in core matters with their interests.
President Xi also stressed enhancing strategic communication and increasing exchanges among various institutions at different levels.
Chinese President congratulated the Bangladeshi Prime Minister on joining the New Development Bank.
Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina appreciated China’s support to Bangladesh during COVID-19, which improved the people’s lives affected by the pandemic.
She emphasized the relationship between Bangladesh and China is based on respect and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs.

She congratulated the Chinese President on the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative, underscoring that the BRI has provided Bangladesh with new development opportunities.
During the meeting, Hasina stressed her country’s support of the one-China policy and applauded China’s role in helping to keep peace and stability in the region.
Furthermore, she added that Bangladesh is ready to strengthen its relationship with China and enhance cooperation in BRICS, which will provide new ways to develop for the developing countries.
