China, 4 September 2024 (TDI): Chinese Premier Li Qiang is set to make an official visit to Pakistan next month, according to sources, marking the first visit by a Chinese premier to the country in 11 years. The three-day visit, scheduled for October 14-16, aims to strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations through the multi-billion dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project and cultural exchange initiatives.
During his visit, Premier Li is expected to sign “significant agreements” with Pakistan, including proposals for the construction of the ML-I railway track in various phases, according to sources. This project is a key component of the CPEC, which aims to enhance regional connectivity and economic cooperation.

In addition to the agreements, Premier Li is also expected to address a joint session of the Pakistani Parliament, a rare honor bestowed upon a foreign leader, according to sources. This gesture highlights the strong diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan.
The visit coincides with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting for heads of government, which Pakistan will host from October 15-16. Premier Li will participate in the meeting, which will focus on financial, economic, socio-cultural, and humanitarian cooperation among SCO member states.
