New York, 21 September 2022 (TDI): Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, met with the Foreign Minister of Venezuela, Carlos Faria on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) 77th session.

During the meeting, the Chinese State Councillor said that it is believed that Venezuela will achieve greater achievements under the leadership of President Carlos Faria. Moreover, Wang Yi said China will support Venezuela in safeguarding national sovereignty, social stability, and national dignity, and firmly support the Venezuelan people in choosing the development path independently.

In addition, Wang Yi said China values Venezuela’s firm defence of national interests and dignity, as well as its national spirit in the fight against hegemony. Further, Yi said, “China is ready to consolidate high-level mutual trust with Venezuela, steadily advance practical cooperation, and take the China-Venezuela comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level.”

Response of Venezuelan Foreign Minister

For his part, Carlos  Faria said that Venezuela cherishes China’s long-term strong support.  Farisa further thanked China for its timely assistance in fighting COVID-19 and for helping Venezuela achieve universal vaccination to protect people’s lives and health.

Additionally, Faria said, “Venezuela firmly supports China in defending national sovereignty and legitimate rights and interests, he said, and firmly opposes certain countries’ malicious moves of creating problems and interfering in China’s internal affairs.”

Faria added, “Venezuela is ready to strengthen friendship and deepen cooperation with China to inject new impetus into bilateral relations.” The Foreign Minister of Venezuela said that the country is ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China in multilateral affairs.

Venezuela also proposed to hold a meeting of the “Group of Friends to Defend the UN Charter” which reflects the common aspirations of developing countries and stands on the right side of history.
