Beijing, 27 January 2022 (TDI): According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, had a phone conversation with US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, on Thursday.

During this conversation, he said that China and the United States intend to work for the normalization of bilateral relations and serve as a guarantee for peaceful coexistence for each other in the future.

Wang said that during the virtual summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Joe Biden in November last year, Biden delivered a positive message unlike the US previous Government and now the world is looking forward to a positive action too.

He said the two countries successfully reached a consensus for bilateral cooperation and that China expects the US to support China in the Winter Olympics so that the youth of the world can participate in sports opportunities.

The US Secretary of State Blinken responded with the assurance of the US’s responsible role by saying that the One-China policy of the United States will remain unchanged.

Blinken said the Biden position during the summit between the two countries still remains the same and that the regular communication between the foreign ministers of China and the US is an important development to maintain the commitment between the two countries.

The US Secretary of the State expressed his enthusiasm for the Beijing Winter Olympics and the US athletes participating in it. He also wished Chinese people a happy Spring Festival.

The two foreign ministers also discussed the situation in Ukraine. Wang focused on the importance of the 2015 Minsk agreements and said that this agreement should be implemented sincerely as it is a political document that was recognized by all parties and approved by the UN Security Council.

He assured that China will support any effort in the implementation of the Minsk agreement. He said that Russia’s security concerns should be considered seriously and regional security should not be guaranteed by expanding military blocs. Antony Blinken also shared the US position on Ukraine and other regional issues.
