Jakarta, 2 August 2022 (TDI): Chinese ambassador to Indonesia, Lu Kang, met with Boy Rafli Amar, Head of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency of Indonesia.
Both officials had a friendly chat about the cooperation between China and Indonesia. They discussed strengthening cooperation on counter-terrorism and de-radicalization between the two countries.

This is meaningful cooperation. The stability of the security environment is the priority of Chinese companies working on foreign projects.
The Chinese approach to counter-terrorism
China’s role in global political and economic affairs has expanded. This also exposed Chinese officials to international and domestic terrorism.
China’s interests are driven by a desire to ensure domestic stability at the places of their foreign projects.
Among China’s ultimate goals is promoting regional stability (especially in Central Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa). While it also includes protecting Chinese citizens and businesses abroad.
China had significantly supported the leading role of the United Nations General Assembly and Security Council in international counter-terrorism efforts.
Moreover, China and the United States have established a consultative mechanism for medium and long-term anti-terrorism cooperation.
Indonesian efforts to counter-terrorism
In the past, Indonesia had to face major terrorism challenges. However, the country has made impressive progress in countering it.
Indonesia has made notable progress in strengthening the legal regime against terrorism in conformity with the international treaties against terrorism.
The Indonesian National Police has significantly successfully dismantled several terrorist networks. While the government has also made significant progress in ending the separatist conflicts in the country.
Furthermore, Indonesia had been undertaking a global initiative on preventing and countering violent extremism leading to terrorism. It also amended the Law on Counter-Terrorism in 2018 to ensure compliance with recently adopted UNSC resolutions of 2395 (2017) and 2617 (2021).
Indonesia emphasized the importance of adopting a soft approach and the involvement of civil society in its counter-terrorism policies. The country believes that strengthening society’s resilience is key to countering terrorism and violent extremism conducive to terrorism.
