Chinese and Dutch Foreign Minister’s telephonic conversation

-

Amsterdam/Beijing, 27 August 2021 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi and the Dutch Minister Sigrid Kaag had a phone discussion. They discussed various topics of common interest, among which the Afghan situation was the main topic. Both sides exchanged their views on the solution for the Afghanistan situation.

Wang highlighted the future challenges that the region can face due to recent developments in Kabul. He suggested that the situation can be solved only by the principle of “Afghan-led and Afghan-owned”. He also underlined that the world consensus is on breaking the chain of terrorist groups and bringing globally approved political structure and policies to Afghanistan.

The Chinese Foreign Minister also urged other states for joint efforts instead of sanctioning Kabul. He appreciated the contribution of the Netherland to the Afghan humanitarian fund initiated by the United Nations.

The Dutch Foreign Minister, Sigrid Kaag, also said that to settle this issue, the world should cooperate for regional and global security and stability. She also said that the international community should join hands to assist Afghanistan in the humanitarian crisis.
